Encana moves shop to USA. Eh? But it’s a Canadian company! Not no more.

Sean Baylis. B of C not changing rates. But Feds (USA) cut theirs, likely the last for this year. FB and other big names -Amazon etc.- are doing well on markets. (Exception being Google.) Sean wonders if this growth will continue. And reminds us: buy on rumour; sell on facts. • Attended a meeting of big players in Canadian medical industry (Gimbel, Cambie etc): on how to improve future of Healthcare. Dovetail private with public? System needs tweaking and excessive influence of unions has to be curtailed.
Jim Bladon. The fall pause is in effect. And general mood is optimistic. • Jim is sad to see Wellington Holbrook leaving ATB. WH has been an exceptional contributor to ATB culture. – Jim’s involved in the renewal of the naming for BMO Centre. So he’s interested in how Mike’s proceeding, as he renews naming of Trico Centre.
Paul Boucher. Reminds us that Business in Calgary magazine is still a decent new prospect resource. Also, that most successful entrepreneurs are middle aged. • New World Interactive was quite a coup for Calgary when they moved here. But they are now regretting that move in light of Jason Kenny’s impending changes to the movie/video/gaming industry incentives.
Ian Campbell: Did you hear: Opticon got hacked in Europe? Rather than pay the ransom, they chose to rebuild all their systems. They’re still building them. And losing inventory; and struggling with JIT deliveries; and suffering from accounting procedures that went out of style with the abacus.
Matt Dart.
Don Davis. Get a man out of his white shirt and god only knows what will become of him! For example: Don is now saying quite nice things about Hell’s Angels. (Shoulda been here this morning.) • WestJet Premium flight to Hamilton was delightful. • Tip: senior people (agewise and workwise) should be engaged to help firms out when holidays or illness or peak periods demand more ‘humanware’.
Todd Dean: Travellin’ Man renews his perch at Birds. Todd’s been to Italy, Nashville, Montreal, Newfoundland, Toronto and more. He’s home for a bit and then, heading back east.
George Doherty.
Don Doolan . Dreaming of flying the Dreamliner to Italy. WestJet will have direct flight to Rome starting in early May. • Update blues: Don finally replaced his iPhone4 with a modern unit but man, he feels like he got the bad Apple. They’re trying to be helpful but …
Tony Fisher. Tony’s not a baseball nut but the did enjoy the World Series Games.
Gord Forsyth . Kal Tire’s not too bad. But Harper’s was better. And hey, if you have an AMA card and want a decent discount, it works at Kal Tire (and elsewhere).
Mel Gibson.
Henry Heuver.
David Hicks .
Dan Kennelly. Things could be worse. But Dan is not thrilled with the Encana news that they’re moving HO to the USA and changing the name to some unpronounceable collection of letters.
Matt Litke.
Andy Lockhart.
JD MacDonald. He hates to say it but bad weather is good for his business.
Michael McLennan. Michael could be in an action thriller movie: Jet boats, island hopping, beating the bushes, perforating the atmosphere, spooking deer and coyotes … all in order to bag the most desirable of prey: pheasants. Yes, Michael’s hunting again. This time in Southeastern Montana.
Ross Mikkelsen. ( Thanks for Hootsuite tip.) – Fresh velvet for dinner? Well, he was at Caesar’s the other night.
Mike Mikkelson. He’s liking the Mercato on 4th SW. It’s as least as good as the Mercato on 85th SW. • His discussions with Trico – in regards to renewing the naming for his community’s sports arena and centre – are proceeding intelligently. Wayne Chu is an honourable fellow. A pleasure to do business with.
Brad Pachal. Here to hear.
Gerry Parcells. Involved in very serious negotiations – with his grand daughter – she wants a fair price on his classic Mercedes. • Gerry warns us to be careful about revising our Healthcare. We don’t need a US system up here.
Dwayne Vinck. Trusting they are. It was too cold to check tickets at the hockey classic in Regina. • Duane wonders if the new AB provincial tax rates aren’t enough to make movie makers happy? Also, he worries about the stasis of Green projects approved under Rachael’s short reign.
