Birds’ BBQ is coming up this weekend. Lawnmower driving lessons may be in order for serious contenders.
Gentlemen, if you have 97 seconds, you might want to watch the Google video (at Todd Dean’s link below). Good message. Touching video. And yes, the world is changing.
Members:
Brett Bain. As I live and die! Never would I have expected an Apple slight from this Apple-tattooed guy. (Ask his wife: he has one somewhere.) Apple may have some awesome new products in its current launch but their arrogance is beginning to sound like GM’s. (What’s good for General Motors is good for …) Stay tuned for Dell talks, tips and more. (Dell computers, that is.)
Sean Baylis. If you like the idea of 12.9% return on your investment, you may want to be here at Birds on Thursday, October 15th for Sean’s guest speaker. Details to follow.
Jim Bladon.
Paul Boucher. Last week’s TV news carried a story about a young fellow with serious blood cancer who came to the blood clinic to personally thank his donors. One donor was our own Paul Boucher. That French blood, eh. • Speaking of French, Paul’s bilingual and worldwide network is helping keep him busy (as Calgary’s market slows down).
Greg Callander .
Ian Campbell. (Note to Heather: Gord does not want you to read this.) Ian’s sophisticated hearing aids (now known as ‘hearables’) make it possible for a wearer’s partner to track their movements and locations, via any iPhone or Android device. This is a personal safety feature and better yet, an easy way to find a lost hearing aid. (which is good – as expensive they are.) • Calgary is a weird market: his more established clinics are experiencing a slowdown while his new locales are clipping along nicely. (Weird. I know, I already said that … but it is.)
Don Davis. There’s a palliative place for cancer patients called the Sage Centre (over by Trail Appliances). They gather in a ‘circle of life’ and share some most meaningful insights. Volunteer-cancer-patient-driver Don was early for a pick up .. so was invited to ‘sit in’. So he did. And shared his experience with us.
Todd Dean . The ocean around Toffino offered up some halibut and big salmon to our ‘Google guru’, while trolling on his holidays. • He tells of how Google research is showing how mobile use is searching the internet. Watch this https://www.thinkwithgoogle.com/micromoments/
George Doherty.
Don Doolan.
Ken Eades.
Tony Fisher. Changes around his X-IRON Mills store will feature 60,000 sq ft of food court. • He mentions that Apple store in Chinook brings in so much business that it raises the sales of other retailers. (Makes you wonder why they ever deemed mall traffic builders to be ‘anchors’.)
Gord Forsyth. Is practicing his French accent, British stiff upper lip and Lederhosen strut … in preparation for his and Heather’s European Tour.
Mel Gibson. Uber is coming. Make no mistake, they are. And Intact is developing an insurance policy for Uber Taxis. • And speaking of insurance, if you’re going to buy a valuable bike, buy some specific insurance for it. (Bike stealers laugh at bike locks and can spot a good bike from 1,000 metres.)
Henry Heuver. Highly complimentary of Marg and Ron Southern and the good they have done our city – and the sport of kings – with Spruce Meadows.
David Hicks.
Bill Hoogstratten.
Dan Kennelly. Looking for fairness where non exists? His niece had a Deerfoot accident, obviously caused by distracted driver. (And freely admitted, too.) But because she rear ended someone, she’s ‘it’ said the cops. We’ll see, says Dan. We’ll see.
Randy Kott.
Keith Kozak. .
Matt Litke.
Andy Lockhart. Is going through the impending, painful loss of a dear pet. His dog has very aggressive cancer. • SAWS exhibition opens at SouthCentre Mall tomorrow and runs till the 20th.
J.D. MacDonald. His new, young employee is working out well. And taking his training by way of the Internet.
Michael McLennan. (Gone Hunting.)
Ross Mikkelsen. Sounding like Nike, he is. Just do it, he says. Check it out before September 26th. http://www.doorsopenyyc.org • And here is a very useful App for splitting costs with friends : http://www.settleup.info/
Mike Mikkelson. Home builders and their suppliers are slowing down, along with the economy. May many more Pipeline presidents build mansions on the shores of Lake Bonavista. (Mike has not yet added this line to his nightly, Now I lay me down to sleep … but the day may come when he does.)
Gerry Parcells.
Bruce Roblin .
Dwayne Vinck. How times are changing. While helping his son move into residence at the U of M, Dwayne noticed that the Welcome Package included a box of condoms.
Bob Wiggins. Good joke, Bob.
Chris Wright . Come September 10th, a proper Auditor’s mind turns to … American Football. • He warns that there are a number of Revenue Canada scams going around. Do not fall for one. (You will know if it is really Revenue Canada on the line: they will have covered you with paper, long before calling.)
George Roberts. Words work when written well .
