September 3 Minutes

The subject of a ‘fine box’ arose. (Birds used to have to pay $1 fine when late. Collection went to charity. Theoretically, it was to encourage timely arrivals.) As A Lockhart drawled: “it was not effective but it was productive.”

Members:

Brett Bain.  Spoke of the Prima Donna Syndrome and how it is playing hell with his employee retention and technical training costs. (Well, retraining replacement costs.) He just lost another tech who could not deal with household chores, a wife and kids on top of having to work 8 to 4, five days a week. (The poor boy.)

Sean Baylis. Other than mentioning that he used the term Dead Cat Bounce while describing the markets, I will desist, as his emails are much more insightful.

Jim Bladon.

Paul Boucher. He points out that Windows 10 has now claimed a pc market share that exceeds Apple’s.  He also offers this link to things to do in September:

Not sure if this is for Brett or his overwhelmed ex-tech : https://hbr.org/2015/09/make-yourself-immune-to-secondhand-stress

Greg Callander .

Ian Campbell.  Graciously deferred his time to more loquacious Birds.

Don Davis. Had an oyster shell hedge story to relate.

Todd Dean .

George Doherty. “ Thank you Golfing Birds and prize donors of our tourney.”

Don Doolan.

Ken Eades.

Tony Fisher. If you’re feeling a little too urban, ya might wanna mosey on up to Irvine Tack and Western Wear’s 60,000 square feet of jeans, hats, saddles and more. The smell of leather and the feel of felt might just … nah, it’ll take more’n that.

Gord Forsyth.  How quickly we forget. ATB used to have a crackerjack team of bad-loans people. But times got good and people drifted off. Then, Bam! ATB needs that team back. Expect bank to tighten up its loan practices. Also, bank wants Gord back. (They may get him back – but on his terms.)

Mel Gibson.

Henry Heuver.  Henry talked about low ground and how it always finds a way to soak up your savings (so to speak). Pay attention to the lay of the land that you might be building on. (Sorry, Gord, but no, the lay of the land is not your neighbourhood hooker.)

David Hicks.  He’s busy in spite of what the media says. Vacancy rate is down for electricians but he sees them heading back to NAIT as apprentices. Which augers well for when times are better.

Bill Hoogstratten.

Dan Kennelly. When he talks about bobcats he means the fuzzy, wild things that are prowling the neighbourhood looking for cats and little dogs to eat. • Some projects are shutting down for 2 weeks without pay.

Randy Kott. Lawyer talk about how hand vacuums suck … as do Roughrider decals.

Keith Kozak. Gave a mixed review of the local real estate market. Houses over $600,000 are slow movers. Anything below $500,000 remained steady. Unless it was a condo.

Matt Litke.

Andy Lockhart.  Seems the DI got Farooked. But then, so did Farouk. Moral of story is: if a guy named Farouk shows up, show him the door or let yourself be sued by an idiot who will cost you time and money (unless he doesn’t learn his lesson this time ’round).

J.D. MacDonald.  Getting better at being a grandfather: now has four grandkids.

Michael McLennan.  He’s smiling. Hunting season is now open.

Ross Mikkelsen.  ATV-Rule #1: when riding on gravel, wear goggles. ATV-Rule #2: If not wearing goggles, ride in the Creston area. Their Emergency department is pretty darn good. • Before voting for yet more government, you might want to talk to Ross about Canada’s border services and their disdain for good business practices.

Mike Mikkelson.  Loved the Lion King, live. • Mentions that one of our downtown towers is being capped till the economy picks itself up, again. • Is happy the WR won Foothills.

Gerry Parcells. He’s no longer at the office: his email is gerryparcells@shaw.ca

Bruce Roblin .

Dwayne Vinck.

Bob Wiggins.  Not totally thrilled with political season chatter about the economy and taxes.

Chris Wright .

George Roberts.   Words work when written well .
