Inglewood GOlf & Curling Club Still Closed For Birds

Gents,

Mike Mikkelson had written to ask where Inglewood stood at the moment as far as hosting the Birds. I imagined this was of general interest, so I followed up my initial reply to Mike by double-checking with Dan Kennelly and Dwayne Vinck.

The answer has two parts:

1) From Dan, who confirmed what I'd told Mike (beginning with the fact that the club isn't opening before 11):

"It wouldn’t make sense for the clubhouse to hire staff to come in early for us.

Also, we would not be able to sit in the same table configuration.

 Recent Notice from Alberta Government

New measures for Calgary and Edmonton Zone

Mandatory 15 person limit on social and family gatherings in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton.

New measures for Calgary and Edmonton Zone

Limit cohorts to no more than 3: your core household, your school and one other sport or social cohort. Young children in child care can be part of 4 cohorts. This is a voluntary public health measure to stop the rapid rise of COVID-19 in the City of Calgary and the Edmonton Zone.

A COVID-19 cohort – also known as bubbles, circles, or safe squads – is a small group of the same people who can interact regularly without staying 2 metres apart.

A person in a cohort should avoid close contact with people outside of the cohort. Keeping the same people together, instead of mixing and mingling:

helps reduce the chances of getting sick
makes it easier to track exposure if someone does get sick
You should only belong to one core cohort. It is safest limit the number of other cohorts you belong to reduce the risk of getting sick or spreading COVID-19.

Personally, I wouldn’t be comfortable getting together until this thing has more control. (I second this concern.)

We are all in various contact groups and it wouldn’t be advisable to get together at this time."

2) Dwayne followed up with his contact at Inglewood, Ewelina Kozak, Food & beverage Manager and Executive Chef. She was succinct in repeating the same message, but interestingly, was at least curious as to what we'd been doing for the past 6 months. Perhaps they DO care. 😉

"Hi Dwayne, at this time we still are not able to offer a meeting space and breakfast for your group. We are also not able to taking bookings over 15 people as per the mandatory restriction.

Crazy covid times are still in effect unfortunately.

What has your group been doing for meeting over the last 6 months?"

So, for others who had been wondering, that's the current status.

As of this moment, due to ongoing restrictions and uncertainty, there's been only token exploration of alternatives because they'd likely be shut down before we'd met more than once or twice.

The near-term future is still meeting via Zoom, which I'm happy to continue facilitating Thursday mornings at our usual time of 7:30 - with the meeting room online early at 7:15 so we can chat before getting down to business.

Thanks to Mike for the question. Thanks to Dan and Dwayne for answers.
