9/11 Remembered: Wednesday featured powerful reminders of the twin towers tragedy. Come From Away TV documentary showed that Canucks are (maybe) capable of rising to anything.
Members:
Brett Bain. Brett was at breakfast but had to run to a meeting at 8:00. So he was here and then, not here.
Sean Baylis.
Jim Bladon. All is fair in politics but I am not sure it’s proper for the ND’s to attack Todd Hirsch for telling the truth in ATB’s “The Owl”. (burds can subscribe to it here: https://www.atb.com/learn/economics/the-owl/Pages/default.aspx?_ga=2.91407193.2105401292.1568313581-973620264.1480436862 ) • One of the truths is: over the past few years, the fastest growing sector in Alberta, was the Public Sector. Public service jobs grew by 10%. NDs may not like this being said. But it is true.
Paul Boucher. Paul is unamused by the tax complexities of being a ‘global’ voice over artist. For instance: who wants to register for VAT accounts in multiple countries? Or pay 33% withholding taxes?. Or plough though red tape to claw back one’s hard earned money? It’s enough to drive a man to say “Yaw”, just like the Swedes do. Paul is now the Voice of Sweden for eTab (?).
Ian Campbell: Imagine listening to your favourite tune when suddenly, your hearing goes. Just like that. It happens and if/when it does, make sure you get it looked at immediately. Certain drug treatments can restore this sudden hearing loss — IF problem diagnosed in first day or so.
Matt Dart .
Don Davis. Don is a Malcolm Gladwell fan? Well, Don is a practical philosopher/moralist/historian kind of guy. He will address the complex and make it interesting. And at times, he gives it a deeper meaning than his casual delivery would seem to imply. • Don is saddened when he sees hard-working entrepreneurs selling their business to buyers who, in effect, use the previous owner’s own money to buy out the seller. It almost never goes well. And when it goes wrong it’s a mess. (As Malcolm Gladwell might say: What we don’t know about the people we don’t know … can hurt. A lot.)
Todd Dean:
George Doherty. Want some good reading? Try Beneath the Scarlet Sky or even, The Huntress.
Don Doolan . He’s looking for some smart B&B regulations. (Unfortunately, he’s looking for these regulations from the City.)
Tony Fisher.
Gord Forsyth . Saturday the 14th. Good company, decent food and an enjoyable afternoon of Win, Place and Show. • Horse races are the perfect place to discuss the likelihood of Rachael becoming our ambassador to Washington.
Mel Gibson.
Henry Heuver. There is nothing quite as obtuse as government planners looking for the easiest route for a new road. Of course, they want to run it through the middle of Henry’s (tree) nursery: it’s the most valuable land and most disruptive route.
David Hicks.
Dan Kennelly. Engineered safety for golfers? Dan shakes his head in despair for the ND government in BC. Seems they are legislating roll cages and seatbelts for golf carts. Yes, seriously. • Not that these stories are related … but he’s liking the one about Andy’s bomb. Check out this one on Page 37: https://edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk/html5/reader/production/default.aspx?pubname=&pubid=32a3ab37-e5d6-4228-8f7d-93f40dcfe0a6
Matt Litke. Hinterland lament: we have no say in the government of Canada. None. • Ah well, a reminder: when in doubt (about anything), ask somebody. You’ll be surprised at what you’ll find out.
Andy Lockhart . Andy explained some of the ins and outs of RESPs. Dwayne chipped in, too. Now, I could really confuse y’all or … you could talk to AL or DV.
J.D. MacDonald. He was here but here to hear.
Michael McLennan.
Ross Mikkelsen. Quiet today. There were probably enough government silliness stories. But he does like Colter Wall.
Mike Mikkelson.
Brad Pachal. You can visit drop-in clinics and be seen right away. Just make an appointment: the link to book an online appointment at the medical clinics is
