Minutes of Birds’ breakfast: April 30, 2015

I plead the Deerfoot Defence: On Thursday, the Deerfoot was host to an impressive accident that featured a $350,000.00 motorhome and various other vehicles. So I was late to Birds. Missed some important words of wisdom, I am sure.

Ah, well. See y’all tomorrow, eh.

Went to bed Blue, woke up Orange this morning. Must have been a bad dream, eh.

Members:

Brett Bain. It’s getting cloudier. The cloud is becoming home to more and more software apps. Which we can access for a fee. Which is what some of us are already doing for some of the bigger apps. So our computers are becoming smart terminals – as the processing is happening ‘out there’. In the cloud.

Sean Baylis.  Has refined tastes, he has. Is liking any oil company w refinery operations. Is hanging around the Petroleum Club as usual. Took in a presentation on the transportation of NG liquids. (This is what Sean does for excitement.) • Given the orange cast to Alberta, and its effect on the rest of Canada, I expect Sean’s economic analysis is undergoing a revision.

Jim Bladon.

Paul Boucher.  Heard around the globe, he is. Just finished a voice project for a client in Yemen. Has some choice words for those who are mismanaging the U of C.

Greg Callander .

Ian Campbell.  Picked a dilly of a motel. Never sure I’m hearing him right. Says he went to Radium, stayed in a run-down motel, ate bangers and mash but got to golf 36 glorious holes. • As for ear infections, take them really seriously, guys. As good as your Doc is, a chat w Ian may save the ‘ears’ of yourself and family.

Don Davis.  Brrrr! Talked about “A Colder War” and how Putin describes negotiating with Obama as being like playing chess with a pigeon. (I wonder if Obe shat on the board? And if so, what did the Russian Putin?)

Todd Dean . Mentioned algo-updates and mobile-geddon .  And if you are wondering, things are going object-oriented. (Table of terminology to come.)

George Doherty.  Our resident inventor has sold his hand cream company. He is now dreaming up new products to create, while golfing.

Don Doolan.  A bit perturbed about airbnb and liability issues.

Ken Eades

Tony Fisher.   Impressed with the Forzani Foundation.

Gord Forsyth.

Mel Gibson.  His mantra is “Beware the leakage of water”. It is what will damage your home. And it is not if; it is when. (Talk to JD.) • Stampede Lotteries on sale – this year with three options.

Henry Heuver.  His favourite greenhouse is doing well. Hold off on planting annuals for a bit yet. Water, water everywhere. (outside of your home).

David Hicks. Of course, he understands the new building and energy codes. But it sounds like DIY got quite a bit more complicated.

Bill Hoogstratten.

Roger Jarvis.   Original Early Bird

Dan Kennelly.

Randy Kott.

Keith Kozak.

Matt Litke.

Andy Lockhart. What’s that? Listen close. He’s … he is … he’s sounding … Scottish. He didnah enjoy their idea of a joke: just treat a pound like a dollar and you’ll do fine, laddy. (But a pound = a tooney!) • As for the reality of St. Andrew’s versus its lore, it was disappointing.  Andy was not impressed.

J.D. MacDonald. He’s a maritime Snowbird, he is. JD flew home to PEI for the snow, some of which piled up to 18 feet high. • Is looking to hire some help. He’s looking for good attitude. Skills he can teach. • Warns us about outdoor plumbing. No, not your backhouse, your taps for hoses. When turning these on for the first time in the spring, turn them off, go inside and listen for leaking in your house. It happens often.

Michael McLennan.

Ross Mikkelsen. How to save money by not hiring experts: use plywood as a firewall. Ross shared photos of a DIY backyard barbecue installation. The homeowner used plywood as backer for the firebox. As expected, it burned quite nicely.

Mike Mikkelson.

Tom Olson.

Gerry Parcells.

Bruce Roblin .

Bob Wiggins.  Listened to the pitch of a call centre selling home insulation. They promised to cut his heating bills by half. By shrinking his house.

Chris Wright .

George Roberts.   Words work when written well .
