On Thursday, Heather Forsyth and Dave Rutherford
came for breakfast where they demonstrated that they’re
not afraid to Fight for the Right .. or whatever the movement to
bring back the Alberta Advantage is going to be called.
Heather and Dave, and a bunch of other good Alberta people,
are taking a stand for what needs to be done — even though,
for now, it does sound a bit like a George Carlin routine.
Heather and Dave are representing the Alberta Prosperity Fund,
which is kinda like one of those Super PACs they have in the USA.
(PAC, btw, stands for Political Action Committee.)
They’re not a political party. And they’re not really a lobby group, either.
Though they are kinda like a lobby: they want us disaffected, non-NDP-ers,
to get together in time to throw the NDP out of office, in 3 years.
I think it’s the Right idea with the Right goal. But they don’t want to use
the Right word or the one the Conservatives like to call themselves, either.
(It is hard to talk about them without mentioning who they are. So sorry,
but I had to use the C word. Just this once, ok.)
And though they hope to Unite the Right, they don’t want to say that
because well, that’s what the media is calling them and heck,
they don’t want to be defined by the media, eh.
Which is what the media will keep on doing until the APF figures out
how to define themselves. Which they may be doing this very moment,
as they’re meeting in Red Deer to put together their directorate.
Which is going to have some pretty heavy hitters from that party
that I cannot name (aka Ric McIver’s team) and also from the other team,
led by Brian Jean. What I can say to you is that they’re not left wingers.
As you can sort of see, they’re not really naming names, yet.
But they do want us to tell our friends and neighbours about them.
And it’d be nice if we’d all take out a membership for 20 bucks.
Though, I’m not sure what we’d be joining. And other than telling my
neighbours that I had breakfast with some people who aren’t left,
I’m not not sure how to get them onside without telling them that
Heather and Dave are trying to Reinvigorate the Right by talking about the
Centre.
If I sound like the monkey in the middle, well that’s where we’re all headed.
I think.
