A few good men showed up this morning: nine of us, to be exact. Will we meet again, next Thursday? Stay tuned: we’re still waiting for final confirm from Inglewood - but it sounds like we will - as long as we have proof of vax (or recent negative test) and wear a mask. • This morning was a bit of a trip down memory lane as that was where our minds seem to be. (May have something to do with all the Covid news - none of which is very positive.) • Though wait a minute! Mike Mikkelson and Renee just left for three weeks in Italy! That’s Ammazza!
Members:
Don Davis. Get this! Don is starting to live dangerously - and dragging me along for the ride. This morning we both ordered eggs benny! • Meanwhile, one of Don’s longtime friends is arranging a trip to Calgary and then to Kamloops from Halifax. Hah. What used to be a breeze to book and do, is now a morass of Covid complications. Puppy kennel fees are $200 a night. Flights to Calgary are complicated. And driving from here to Kamloops requires winter tires after September 30th. (These are but a few of the issues.)
Tony Fisher. He mentions that Roger Jarvis is in the hospital and that George Doherty has moved into CareWest for a spell.
David Hicks. He’s beginning to sound like a Travel Alberta pro: Dave and family enjoyed their time in their trailer at Gooseberry. Plus, to keep his projects not the go, he had to visit Pyramid Lake Resort and Patricia Lake, near Jasper. • He also got to see where The Pines restaurant is and may even review it, in the future.
Dan Kennelly. He’s in touch with Inglewood and will keep us posted about breakfast. • Right now, he’s holding tight to his wallet: inflation is pushing pub food into the ‘better restaurant’ price range. Bitter Sisters is pricier than ever. But the beer is just as good as ever.
Andy Lockhart. Sounds like her’s hanging up his nine iron for the season. But hey, good food and pleasant company makes for a great lunch at Starbelly in Seaton. • Andy had some book and TV suggestions as did others: (all listed at the end of these minutes.)
Ross Mikkelsen. A couple of Barbecues Galore’s significant brands have gone public. So now you, too, can treat yourself to Weber and Traeger yard toys while earning dividends on your purchases. (Um, this is in no way a stock purchase recommendation. That’s Sean’s puddle and Ross is keeping his feet well out of it.) • Ross has three or four employees who choose not to wear masks which rubs everyone the wrong way. It may just be time to say ‘mask up or move on’.
Brad Pachal. Brad likes the Storm Mountain Resort out by Radium. And though he digs Moraine Lake like all good Canadians do, he mentions that canoe rentals, there, are $126.00 an hour. (Compared to Glenmore’s $15.00 an hour.)
Bob Wiggins. He’s feeling Covid bound and with Kenny’s new restrictions, likely to feel so for sometime to come. In lieu of sending pecan pie, Dorothy asked Bob to say hello to all. • Bob recounted buying into the then, 1970’s new community of Bona Vista, for around $39G’s. And selling 5 years later for $109G’s. (Dave pointed out that had Bob held on to his Keith-built home, he could now sell for around $800G’s.) Thanks, Dave.
