Early Birds LIVE Meeting, September 2, 2021

Early Birds, Old School, Back at Inglewood, September 2, 2021

This morning, a Baker’s dozen of Birds flocked to the Inglewood Golf and Curling Club. And they were such an unruly and noisy bunch. Blades brought greetings from Gord and Heather Forsyth (and a warning that Gord may just appear some Thursday, just as soon as Heather fills the Right’s coffers). Andy brought his own ‘perch’ for all to “See & Sit On”. Dwayne sang the praises of the Inn on Officers’ Garden. And not only did Don Davis take up his regular place; he called for his regular breakfast.

Brett Bain. He shared a mystery this morning: how could the Gleichen liquor store go out of business, what with a reservation next door?

Jim Bladon. Talked about the state of Ag banking (pretty good), charity golf (hard work but somebody’s gotta do it) and that the Aussie Rules Piano Bar is reopening tomorrow. Sadly, his sister-in-law passed away so Jim and Kim will be heading to Penticton for the celebration of her life.

Paul Boucher. Paul continues to lend his voice to Glencore Mining and Suncor (yes, the one with the invisible ‘e’). The TV series, Deadly Standoff, featuring Paul’s voice, is due out this fall.

Matt Dart. He’s been bidding on an interesting looking, Buffalo Run project. Meanwhile, he’s spending his hard earned cash on a new fridge. It was just a little part that failed but all the replacement ones disappeared in Japan’s tsunami.

Don Davis. Sounds like Pat is golfing while Don directs his yard crew on how to keep the homestead looking good … so they can properly entertain the 2-year-old twins. (For a couple of hours, and then it’s time for a nap. Don and Pat’s nap; not the twins - they can go all day.) Don reminds us that Bird, Bruce Roblin, continues to perform floral magic, via White’s Flowers.

Don Doolan. “Oh, to be 45 again, eh Don!” Ah well, he has a golden image of those centre discs emblazoned on his black Tee. Speaking of black, there were some bears out past Emerald Lake this week. And Don has cancelled their Hawaii trip in response to the governor’s request that tourists stay home, for now.

Tony Fisher. He’s keeping up with the changing trends in the entertainment business. Mechanical, coin operated games are collapsing in favour of e-pay, VR games - each of which has to earn back its purchase price of say, oh, about $40 Grand, before generating any revenue.

David Hicks. Started the morning off with a good line about … feeling like he’s wearing 3D glasses: seeing real Birds instead of Zoom images! Has recently returned from the East coast where he and his … refuelled on fish, fun and family.

Dan Kennelly. If you like ice cream, you’ll enjoy Made by Marcus’ new digs in Edmonton. Better yet, you can get a huge Bird’s discount on your cold treat or restaurant order - just ask for ‘Dan Kennelly’s daughter’. (Okay, so I’m lying about the discount … but you can still ask for her to say Hi, from her proud father. She had much to do with the success of this Edmonton location.)

Andy Lockhart. “The Future is Faster Than You Think”, is a book that you might just enjoy. Get it at the library.

Dwayne Vinck. His eldest daughter is engaged to be married and like so many couples, she’s been scrambling for a venue (because who knows when we might have another lockdown). Seems the Inn on Officers’ Garden is perfect for the kind of event they’re having. Phew.

Bob Wiggins. Had a fascinating tip for breakfast: how to identify different bear species by looking at their scat. (It could be this subject was influenced by his and Dorthy’s marathon of jigsaw challenge: a 1,000-piece puzzle.)
