Virtual Birds, New Year's Eve, 2020

Virtual Birds, New Year's Eve, 2020

Gentlemen,

Welcome to the final Birds meeting of the year, fittingly, on the last day of 2020.

The sentiment of gratitude is expressed eloquently by Ross Mikkelsen in the video, but thank you to everyone who's made the effort when they could to join us virtually. It has made a world of difference to all of us.

Once again, your standing invitation to join is via this link:

Meeting ID: 890 0088 0587
Passcode: 741081

Our first meeting of 2021, will be next Thursday, January 7th,

Here are a few quick highlights from the meeting:

From Don Doolan - a recommendation to enjoy the takeout meal for two from the Hyatt. About $60 per person, but easily enough food for two meals, and he was literally taken aback at the quality, and how well prepared it was.

Along similar lines, Brad Pachal recommended the Curbside Pickup option from the Cattle Baron.

Year-end book recommendations:

Don Doolan: Burke's Law: A Life in Hockey by Brian Burke. This link is to pick up the book from Pages in Kensington (please try to support your local bookstore - many of them now have excellent online ordering systems). Obviously, you can get it from any of the usual online suspects as well. https://www.pageskensington.com/?q=h.tviewer&using_sb=status&qsb=keyword&qse=rC8Hn_GwKfQXgYuDMWTa8g.

Two from Andy Lockhart: Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings by Ben Shapiro. I couldn't find this at any of the Canadian bookstores I searched, including Indigo, so here's the link to the Canadian Amazon site: https://www.amazon.ca/Facts-Dont-Care-about-Feelings/dp/1949673162/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=Ben+Shapiro&qid=1609428879&sr=8-3.

And

Economic Facts and Fallacies by Thomas Sowell, https://www.pageskensington.com/?q=h.tviewer&using_sb=status&qsb=keyword&qse=dRd52YVrme8sFQyixdw_FA.

Finally, via Paul Boucher, Calling Bullshit by Carl Bergstrom and Jevin West: https://www.pageskensington.com/?q=h.tviewer&using_sb=status&qsb=keyword&qse=dRd52YVrme8sFQyixdw_FA.

Happy New Year and a hearty wish for all the best in 2021! The video is below.
