Are we Birds becoming Eh-political?
Very little was said about the upcoming election.
Some (eh-political) links coming from Paul. Will resend by email and repost them here later.
Members:
Brett Bain. Cyber security is too complex to explain in a short sentence … but do delete emails that seem a bit dodgy and have attachments. And if your ‘spidy-sensor’ tingles at all, just flush the message. You can always call the sender to double check, before or after doing so. But hey, maybe it’s time for a breakfast about good security habits. Along with a bit of a pitch for protection services. Gord???
Sean Baylis.
Jim Bladon.
Paul Boucher. It pays to be bilingual. Just ask Paul what he’s voicing now (and in that other official language). He’s now narrating an audio book (which pays slave wages but should get heard and for Paul, being heard can lead to being heard even more.). • He’s soon to have a new website (by Zoolstra).
Ian Campbell. He’s like a number of people: squirming about Jason Kenny. Ian wants to vote CON but the recent missteps by the UPC is discomforting. Did Thursday night’s debate help? Was Jason’s humble and sincere performance reassuring?
Matt Dart. He can see projects on the horizon but is not seeing much coming behind them. • Saw Todd Hirsch recently. Todd seemed a bit muted about the future.
Don Davis .
Todd Dean. Ode to Youth: one of his sons (Matt) is rather smitten by a lovely Brexit lass. He’s been to see ‘her’ in England and Scotland and is soon to visit her and her family where her dad works: Dubai. Sounds awesome.
George Doherty.
Don Doolan . Hockey – Flames run towards the Stanley Cup – is on his mind but he’s reluctant to part with high seat prices.
Tony Fisher. Enjoying his pastime of watching Asians shop in the big malls of Palm Springs. First they buy luggage. Then they send someone into store to shop for brand name goods (while family?friends? guard the fast filling bags). Then they trundle everything up and presumably, take them back to Asia to resell. • His 10-year-old grandson is heading to Barcelona to play some pretty amazing soccer (not that Tony told us this; Mel let it slip.)
Gord Forsyth. It’s only natural that this ‘Honda Ridgeline pilot’ would visit Nashville, Tennessee (Jeez! How many repeating letters are there in this name?) And guess what, while others talk about the Grande Olde Opry, Gord tells us what a fine hockey town Nashville is. It’s a Canadian perspective, eh.
Mel Gibson. Repeat after Mel: T here are plenty of good reasons for stellar rise in the cost of car repairs.Plenty • Want a good bodyshop? CarStar – on Bannister – seems pretty okay.
Henry Heuver. Joan fell and broke her hip some weeks ago. She’s walking again. • Henry’s business is starting to pick up and the nursery is reviving. But some nice weather would help kick start both.
David Hicks. You can put some Vancouver and Yaletown into this guy but you can’t take the Cape Breton out of him. That’s where be’s bound next. • And he’s liking how VRBO can help with accommodations.
Dan Kennelly. Renee Mikkelson (yes, Mike’s wife) walked into the hospital with a sore leg. Turned out to be a broken ankle. • Dan sees promise of new biz from Trans Canada and also, Trans Mountain.
Matt Litke. Matt is finding some sore lower back relief at Dakin Rehab. (as are Gord, George and Todd). Alignment First seems to be a good way to proceed. • Matt is not a fan of BNN. They’re shrill and over-reactive. Better to listen to a good banker.
Andy Lockhart. He has said this before and will say it again: investment management is a long game and markets will cycle up and down. Recessions happen. Always have/always will. Accept this and live somewhat frugally. Always keep some cash available for opportunities.• His grandson (Brendon?) is working for an AI/robotics firm that had 50 employees when he joined 6 months ago. Firm now has 175 people. Stay tuned – this may be a very interesting story.
J.D. MacDonald. JD is feeling heat: Alex is away on a holiday so JD is on call.
Michael McLennan.
Ross Mikkelsen. Is Ross is giving in to the good life? He visited ATCO Commons for an excellent lunch in a pretty fine restaurant there.
Mike Mikkelson.
Brad Pachal. As much as he likes BC, he couldn’t help but noticing that there is little recycling or composting happening in Kelowna. How dare they put us (ALTA) down for our oil? • If you’re a member of AMA, know that if your bike breaks down away from home, they’ll come and pick you up and drive you and your ailing wheels home. Tip: Don’t leave home without your AMA membership.
Gerry Parcells. He’s missing the tulips, cherry blossoms and green grass … of BC.
Dwayne Vinck.
Bob Wiggins. Bob and long-time member, Doug Wight, reminisced about previous Birds’ breakfast haunts: the Parklane Restaurant, Smithies in the SW, Northhills and Brentwood, Calgary Tower, Holiday Inn, Quality Inn – breakfasts at some members establishments including Don Davis’ when he introduced the first colour copier (seen by most Birds).
