Sheer Boredom versus Aladdin?

October 2

Politics simplified by Birds’ pundit, Andy Lockhart.

Members:

Jim Bladon. The Cannabis Report! (aka Smoking Weed for Profit): Edibles to be legalized this month but there is a 90 day moratorium … which delays launch to mid-December. Oops, and then there are the ‘missing’ guidelines for security packaging … which probably means a 2020 launch. • When in Mesa do as Jim and Kim did: attend an ASU football game. It’s good football!. • Village Brewing is launching this year’s Gardener Beer (made with carrots) – with proceeds flowing back to the Community Gardens program.

Paul Boucher. Voice actor as beachcomber? VROB (or AirBnB?) helped Paul find beachfront digs in Seattle. Only $124 night (US), included a basket of cheese, fruit and a bottle of wine. Oh yeah, and comfortable digs.• American peers were delightful. • Good news for Calgary: Propellor Studios has geared up (technologically), providing movies, shot here, with immediate, in-progress services.• Listen to the upcoming trailers for The Lion King and also, Toy Story (#3, I think): Paul is voicing them in French and also in English. (This is a big deal.) Paul has also begun lending his voice to Air Transat training programs.

Ian Campbell:

Matt Dart . More smoke? Another cannabis plant has been announced – which may or may not benefit from CBD regulations (in progress). • BTW: the plant is seeking ways to enhance uptime. With revenues of $700 a minute, downtime is well, a real downer.

Don Davis. Don and Pat’s son (Mike?), along with wife and 10-month old twins, were treated with great consideration aboard KLM to Amsterdam. They’re also enjoying proper accommodations and ‘twins-treatment’ in Holland and Greece.

Todd Dean:

George Doherty. George listens and learns:. Don Davis enjoys sharing how he saves money on retail purchases. So just the other day, George asked the Lowes sales clerk for the Don Davis price … and saved an additional 20% on a patio set. (Well, actually, he applied the DD strategy … a story best told by George D).   • For a good read, The Reckoning by John Grisham.

Don Doolan .

Tony Fisher. Tony almost complimented the government. (Almost, Ross. Almost.)  Seems Canada Post is doing a good job and keeping delivery costs down, for Tony’s online sales. • If you haven’t been to SunRidge Mall for a while, you may not recognize it.

Gord Forsyth

Mel Gibson. Mel is a bit concerned about the switch to digital pink cards.

Henry Heuver.

David Hicks . Kudos to fellow birds …

Dan Kennelly. Dan is finding sources for the equipment needed for his community’s new ice arena. • Business is in a holding pattern because of the election. • And silliness in bylaw enforcement now includes being charged for ‘distracted driving’ … for having one’s cell phone in your cup holder. A 78 year-old lady in Vancouver was charged with this. Fortunately the judge saw the stupidity and dropped the charges, along with the fine for $378.00.

Matt Litke.

Andy Lockhart. Wooden you like to see what others saw? South Centre is hosting the SAWS exhibition this weekend. Worth a visit, it is.

J.D. MacDonald.

Michael McLennan. It sounds like we better visit the Azores soon; while they’re still there. (When writing for Brewster, we used to joke about ‘Visiting the Columbia Icefield before it melts’. Not so funny, anymore.) • 3D printing is exploding.

Ross Mikkelsen.

Mike Mikkelson. So you want an attractive print package for your customer. And your printer sucks (or the cartridges require you to apply for a 2nd mortgage). So email your (PDF) files to Staples. Tell them what you want and they’ll turn it into a ‘beautiful thing’.

Brad Pachal. Seems YouTube, Twitter and FaceBook are merging. Newco to be called YouTwitFace.

Gerry Parcells.

Dwayne Vinck. Charlotte, South Carolina and Charleston, West Virginia, impressed Dwayne and Tyla. They visited family there, took a walking tour and quite enjoyed the history of the area..

Bob Wiggins. Kudos to Gord for arranging the day at the races. Bob and Dorothy bet on every race and ended the day with winnings totalling $5.30. They encourage Birds to do it again. • Their road trip took them to Thunder Bay and back, where they caught up with old friends in Kenora and Dryden, Regina and …. Interesting that Dorothy’s family hails from Romania. (That country has many connections to the world in the 20th Century – which we should save until next week.)
