Minutes of Birds’ breakfast: June 11, 2015

Birds Annual BBQ: September 12 is the date. Hacienda Lockhart is the place. Details to come.

Our website is at  https://yycearlybirds.club

Welcome Dwayne Vinck: you are now an Early Bird.

By George, Birds’ Golf Tourney tees off on Thursday, August, 27th.

How to get your credit card to work on US gas pumps: when it asks for your Zip code, enter the 3 numbers from your postal code plus two zeros and it’ll work. At least, Andy’s does: 22900.

Members:

Brett Bain.

Sean Baylis.  Sean is always prepared. Today, he had a list of appealing buys: Trinidad Drilling (just bought another drilling company and is the better for it), Crescent Point, Enerplus (they’re actually increasing their drilling activity), White Cap Resources, Cardinal Energy and (Celt?). He also seems to like Netflix, too. (Not sure if that’s for watching TV or for buying stock or for both?)

Jim Bladon.  Anything Google can do, we can do also: ATB is launching a crowdfunding platform to help Alberta starts-ups get funding. More to come on this. • Kelowna (and maybe the entire Okanogan) is bringing out a Bylaw that prevents residential properties from short-term rental periods. Minimum is 30 days.

Paul Boucher.

Greg Callander .

Ian Campbell.

Don Davis.  Kudos to JD. Also to Mike M for his yeoman performance in the community of Lake Bonavista. (It’s nice to be recognized for good work.)

Todd Dean . Somewhat apologetic about Google hitch last week (but from what I’ve heard, it was interesting and much appreciated. As some wag said: Todd really can dance and skate and talk, all at the same time.)

George Doherty. A new form of foreplay? Maybe. George showed up for breakfast and then, skipped out early to play 18 holes.

Don Doolan.

Ken Eades

Tony Fisher.

Gord Forsyth.  He and Heather are the new Mamas & the Papas! They’re singing that lovely ‘San Francisco’ song … but instead of ‘flowers in your hair’, their lyrics are “a Pirates’ hardball in your hands”. There may be two stories as to who caught the ball but they do agree on one thing: it’s Heather’s ball. (Could it be said that this is how Gord gets to keep his?)

Mel Gibson.

Henry Heuver.

David Hicks.   Wearing his wine-red bicycle helmet: he’s wondering what to do while biking through the Loire Valley. (Um, maybe something will pop into your mind as you look at the hue of your helmet while humming that tune: Red, red wine …) • Wearing his electrician’s hat: there are ways to wirelessly interconnect your smoke alarms. Here is the link to the wirelessly interconnected smoke detector Dave mentioned this morning.  It is also available on  Costco.ca

Also, Here is the smoke detector that wirelessly interconnects but is powered by 120V:

Bill Hoogstratten.

Roger Jarvis.   Original Early Bird

Dan Kennelly.  Oil Show madness: the big fabricators are absent. But there are new players from Ontario and the US. • Ah well, he and Mikey may have solved the problems of big oil while chasing little white balls on Bootleg and Wildstone, in B.C.

Randy Kott. Brought greetings from Garrett, who’s now a father of three and loving his university program.

Keith Kozak. The fire code for secondary suites has changed and you might want to pay attention to this … as fines can be as high as $100 Grand. (Yes. This is correct.)

Matt Litke.

Andy Lockhart.  Woodworker Andy has finished and entered his exhibition pieces. May they be judged and chosen for the big SAWS show this fall. • Golfer/skater Andy enjoyed a Whitefish Montana team event last weekend • CSR Andy will step down from his Chairman’s perch at the DI … but not before making sure the City has all the paperwork it needs to (hopefully) endorse the DI’s hotel conversion project.

J.D. MacDonald.

Michael McLennan.

Ross Mikkelsen.

Mike Mikkelson.  When you pay $25M for a booth at the Oil Show you notice things: like, attendance is down 26% this year.

Tom Olson.

Gerry Parcells.  Gerry is still very shook up by the gas-dash event at Centex. He was there and witnessed this terrible event. “It’s something you really don’t want to see. Very stressful.”

Bruce Roblin .

Dwayne Vinck.

Bob Wiggins.  Get your Shingles vaccination.

Chris Wright .

George Roberts.   Words work when written well .
