It was November 11th and appropriately, we had 11 Birds for breakfast.
Ross
mentioned how Henry Heuver
always reminds us how the people of Holland honour the Canadians who freed them from the yoke of Nazi occupation. Meanwhile, someone named Gord Forsyth
reminded us who he was and … insisted that he still is the Birds ATB banker. Then he wished out loud for French Toast for breakfast and, as luck would have it, …
Paul Boucher. As Chair, Paul warned us to watch out for deer. To keep away from them. He wasn’t kidding. It seems they are carriers of Covid. Indeed, some actually have the disease. And they could be virus spreaders. (A virus “reservoir”, is what the deer population is now called. Good luck to Michael McLennan then on his hunting!)
Don Davis. He and Pat (and friends) dined at the Modern Steak/Modern Ocean restaurant on Macleod Trail @ Southport. On ‘Date Night Wednesday’ they enjoyed two steaks, two sides and a featured bottle of wine for $80.00. (Yes, that was for the both of them.) On Wednesdays, you can do that, too. Or enjoy Wagyu beef for much more, on other days. •• Don is chuckling about the Rivian (electric trucks) IPO that seems to have no ceiling in sight. Yet. For some EV insights, check out this video from Dwayne:
Don Doolan. Going south is easy, now that the US has opened its border. But getting back to Canada can be costly. Covid tests can run $250 per person. But wait: there’s Amazon and they have a PCR test kit for $36.95. As long as UPS does its thing, this should work. Don will let us know. • And yes, there are stories of free tests - though the 72 hour period can, well, test these tests, I guess.
Gord Forsyth. He’s back with the bank and quite enjoying helping business clients recover their equilibrium. Covid and the economy have laid many good folks so low they’re unsure how to proceed. That’s Gord’s role: to help them find their way back • And then, he runs home to Heather? Well, sorta … but his real delight is their shared delight: their two and half year old granddaughter.
Garry Friedrichsen. If you thought the Cadbury secret of getting caramel into those tasty, tiny chocolate squares was cool, you ain’t been to the Gillette plant in Boston. Making razors is very high tech - with laser beams and fibre optics and more. • If seeing tech in action appeals to you, GF suggest you take some factory tours. (I’ve taken many, for clients over the years, and agree: they’re interesting.)
Andy Lockhart. You’d think he’d know better than to be the Executor of an estate … but when it’s family, you do what’s needed. So he is experiencing all the little things that try you. • Meanwhile, to forestall winter’s white coverall, he has attached his snowblower to his tractor.
Ross Mikkelsen. Ever the good corporate citizen, Ross is on the Greenview Business Improvement Board. They have a go-getter as an ED and she’s uncovering city grants, applying for them and gaining traction. In fact, on December 18th, local business are having a city-funded celebration event in the parking lot of Ross’ store and who knows what’s next? It’s okay, though: tax payers are bearing the load.
Brad Pascal. His sister is an RN in BC and has recently been assigned to the Covid ECU. It’s trying, complicated and stressful. For example, Covid patients are connected to multiple tubes and sensors. This necessitates five medical staff people to turn the patients over. Unfortunately, practical nurses can’t assist with this because … they are not permitted to wear the level of face mask required in the ECU.
Dwayne Vinck. If you have someone in your family with any sort of disability - yes, including medical related - you might want to check out the RDSP program.
Bob Wiggins. Bob accompanies Dorothy on grocery shops and he’s watching the price of food climb at an alarming rate.
