Early Birds, May 20, 2021

Gentlemen,

I apologize for posting this a bit longer than usual after the fact. The video from this past week's meeting is below.

Tidbits to discover in the video:

Dan Kennelly shared that the Blues Can in Inglewood is trying their hand at streaming live music events, including good, contemporary blues players. When I dug into it, I discovered that the Blues Can, like a lot of live music venues is genuinely struggling to stay alive. So the event they were streaming over the long weekend was a "Save The Blues" event. Although the event ended Sunday at Midnight, the Donate Now button is still active. That link is https://www.thebluescan.com.

You don't have to be someone in the arts to realize that a LOT of people - from the artists, the facililty/venue owners, and their staff in the hospitality industry - need a hand up through this extended pandemic that's prevented them from being open. If you're so inclined, I'm sure they'd appreciate any support - and a visit for an ale or 3 when they finally open up again. I don't think Kenney, Shandro, Hinshaw & co. will be on the guest list for their re-opening night.

Jim Bladon shared another update regarding the Calgary Stampede. The Stampede has AHS-approved re-opening plans, which are COVID-scenario dependent of course. They're looking at all sorts of COVID-mitagations, including timed-entry tickets (no word on how you kick them out of Nashville North after they're in), grandstand events at 40-50% capacity, etc. More to come as the days go by.

Tony Fisher mentioned seeing a cray long queue outside a store: Krazy Bins - which is where your returned Amazon products go to help pad Amazon's profits. So, what happens is that Amazon processes a chargeback to the vendor for the returned item, then, they sell them at 3 to 5 cents on the dollar or LESS out of the old Winners location in Sundridge. It's literally a "bin store". You never know what you'll find from one day to the next, and the discounts escalate to almost $0 over the course of a week, before the store is restocked again.

On the one hand, "nice business if you can get it", and on the other, "Nice! Amazon's found another way to defenestrate local businesses." In any case, the URL for the business is https://krazybinz.ca

Dwayne Vinck stressed the great value in a stock tip for BHT - Braveheart Resources, a company he's involved with a high level. You can see and read a bit more about the stock here. It's a copper play - and right now, Copper might as well gold (from a layman's perspective, anyway): https://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/bht?countrycode=ca.

Sean Baylis followed up with a couple of tips of his own - and it's all in the video below.

Enjoy.
